Warren County residents invited to learn more about VGCC Back-to-Work program

A representative from Vance-Granville Community College will soon be available at the local employment office in Warren County to inform residents about the North Carolina Back-to-Work “Certified Production Technician” (CPT) program. David Holt, NC Back-to-Work job coach for VGCC, will be at the N.C. Division of Employment Security (formerly the Employment Security Commission) office on Main Street in Warrenton on Monday, April 14, from 9 until 11 a.m.

The CPT program helps dislocated workers prepare for new jobs in manufacturing by providing training for industry-recognized national certification in several areas, including safety awareness, manufacturing processes, quality practices and maintenance awareness. The course is based on the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) curriculum, an industry training system focused on the core technical skills and knowledge needed by front-line workers in manufacturing and supply chain logistics.

As part of the North Carolina Back-to-Work program , the costs of tuition, books, fees and certification tests in CPT are waived for qualified participants, including those who are unemployed and underemployed. In addition to unemployed and underemployed residents of Vance, Granville, Franklin, and Warren counties, the program targets military veterans and members of the N.C. National Guard.

VGCC’s next class will begin with a Human Resources Development /orientation course, May 5 through May 15, followed by the CPT training, May 19 through July 8. Classes will be held Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the college’s Main Campus in Vance County.

After completing this training, students will be prepared to obtain employment in advanced manufacturing facilities. Students in this program will also be able to complete the WorkKeys Assessments in order to earn a North Carolina Career Readiness Certificate, and will receive assistance in searching for jobs in the manufacturing sector.

For more information and to register for the upcoming class, contact David Holt at (252) 738-3385 or holtd@vgcc.edu  or Kyle Burwell at (252) 738-3276 or hrd-wk@vgcc.edu .
