VGCC’s Fulcher signs with Bluefield

Khadier Fulcher of Oxford, one of the leading student-athletes on the 2014-2015 Vance-Granville Community College Vanguards men’s basketball team, has signed a letter of intent to continue his playing career at four-year Bluefield College.

Fulcher is on track to graduate from VGCC at the end of the summer term in July with an Associate in Arts degree. He intends to major in Accounting at Bluefield. The private liberal arts college is located in Bluefield, Va., close to the West Virginia border. The Bluefield Rams compete in the Appalachian Athletic Conference and are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Among their conference opponents are two North Carolina schools, St. Andrews University (Laurinburg) and Montreat College.

Fulcher is a graduate of Granville Central High School. In his second season with VGCC, the guard, who was also team captain, scored 269 points (13.5 points per game) and posted 180 rebounds (9 per game). Fulcher shot a team-high 52 percent from the floor, and 75.5 percent from the free-throw line. He helped lead the Vanguards to milestones that included their first wins over conference rivals Catawba Valley CC, Wake Tech CC and Guilford Tech CC in years, and their first win in the post-season since 2010. Fulcher received the team’s “Most Outstanding Player” award at the end of the season.

He is the third member of the VGCC basketball team to sign with a four-year school this year. Jarrett Ballard and Rodney Kirby both are transferring to Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte.
