VGCC Warren Campus Hosts Celebration of Native American Culture

The Warren County campus of Vance-Granville Community College will host an American Indian Heritage Month Celebration on Wednesday, November 28 at 6 p.m. The program will feature performers from the local Haliwa-Saponi tribe, who will dance and share their culture. Winona Anstead, Title VII Indian Education coordinator for Warren County, will discuss the history of the tribe.

The Haliwa-Saponi tribe, officially recognized by the state of North Carolina since 1965, currently boasts more than 3,800 members. The name “Haliwa” is derived from the first letters of the two counties, Halifax and Warren, where most of the tribe lives.

The VGCC Warren County Campus is located at 210 West Ridgeway Street in Warrenton. For more information, call the campus at (252) 257-1900.
