VGCC to hold free breakfast workshop for “Plus 50” students

Vance-Granville Community College is holding a breakfast workshop designed to inspire area adults, aged 50 and over, to pursue a college degree, diploma or certificate. Both currently-enrolled VGCC students and those who are considering a return to education are invited.

The workshop — entitled “Over 50 and Going Back to School, What a Great Idea!” — will be held on Wednesday, July 16, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. in the Civic Center on VGCC’s Main Campus . A welcome table and coffee will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Mike Collins, motivational speaker and president of The Perfect Workday Company in Raleigh, will present information about attending college as a “Plus 50” student. Collins is a popular speaker at VGCC, who has led numerous seminars and workshops in the past.

There is no charge for attending the breakfast/workshop, but registration in advance is required. Participants can register online at vgcc.springerstudios.net/Forms/breakfastworkshop.cfm .

This event is made possible through support provided by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). Last year, VGCC received a grant from the AACC’s Plus 50 Encore Completion Program, a national effort to train 10,000 baby boomers for new jobs in health care, education and social services. The Plus 50 Encore Completion Program is funded with a $3.2 million grant to AACC provided by Deerbrook Charitable Trust.
