VGCC Student is devoted to helping others

Kimmora M. Brown of Franklinton is a student in the Criminal Justice Technology program at Vance-Granville Community College, but her career serving her community is already well underway. Brown is the founder and executive director of a charitable organization, and her efforts were recently recognized when VGCC nominated her for a spotlight on special student achievements that will be part of the North Carolina Community College System’s upcoming annual excellence event.

Brown founded All-N’ Together Services , a 501(c)(3) public charity organization, in 2006. With the help of her family and generous community sponsors, her organization provides clothing, food, school supplies and personal care items to youth and families in the community who are in need. Her two most popular initiatives are “Project Pencil Case Kit” and “Back Packs for Students,” both of which provide school supplies to local children. All-N’ Together Services also helps families in need during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. “We work to improve the living conditions of individuals by helping them to obtain skills that will provide them with greater opportunities,” Brown said.

At VGCC, Brown serves as vice president of the Criminal Justice Club. She has been named to the Dean’s List twice, and she has been awarded an endowed scholarship by VGCC.

“I have always wanted to continue my education not only as an accomplishment for myself, but also to show my son, who is a special needs child, that you can do anything if you put your mind to it,” Brown said. “With the help of God and the wonderful staff at Vance-Granville, I have been able to accomplish this. I am glad that I completed my first two years at Vance-Granville, because I now feel that I am well prepared for academics at the university level.” Brown is set to graduate in May and plans to transfer to North Carolina Wesleyan College to complete a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice before pursuing a career working with young people.
