VGCC starting three new Computer classes in June

Vance-Granville Community College is currently registering students for three new computer-related courses that start in June on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County.

Accounting Fundamentals” is scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 until 9 p.m., June 4 through June 27. This course is designed to help non-accountants learn about accounting principles, and it offers a foundation for students expecting to take a QuickBooks course. The course is also an excellent option for small business owners and others who simply need a better understanding of accounting basics.

Another course being offered for the first time is “iPad Basics,” which allows participants to explore the unique functions and features of the popular Apple product. Additionally, participants will examine a variety of applications, learn how to download applications, and explore methods for using the iPad. Students are required to bring their own iPad to this class, which meets on Mondays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., June 10 through July 22.

Finally, the “Windows 8” training course is designed both for those who are new to computers generally, and for computer users who are simply overwhelmed by the significant changes Microsoft made to its operating system in the latest release. The course is scheduled for Thursdays from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m., June 13 through July 25. Students are required to bring their own laptop computers with Windows 8 to class. During the course, students will become more comfortable and familiar with the new user interface and its basic capabilities.

For each course, the registration fee is $65, with other college fees totaling $7. Registration fees are waived for N.C. resident seniors, ages 65 and above, for one course per semester.
