VGCC Small Business Center schedules Seminar on Certification

Vance-Granville Community College’s Small Business Center will offer a free seminar, “Should Your Business Be Certified?” on Wednesday, June 20, from 1 until 3 p.m. in room 7107 on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County.

During the seminar, instructor Alyssa Mako of The Women’s Business Center of North Carolina will discuss certification programs that can serve as useful tools for small business owners, particularly those who are female, members of minority groups or military veterans. Mako will discuss the “alphabet soup” of various certifications, including MBE (minority-owned business enterprise), WBE (women’s business enterprise), WBENC (Women’s Business Enterprise National Council), and HUB (historically underutilized business). Participants will learn about who qualifies for these certifications, how to determine if a certification is right for a particular business, how to register a business with private corporations and public agencies, and how to leverage these certification programs to find new customers and increase business.

For more information and to reserve your seat in this free class, call Tanya Weary at the Small Business Center at (252) 738-3240 or e-mail her at wearyt@vgcc.edu .
