VGCC schedules JobsNOW CNA training

Vance-Granville Community College will soon offer its third session of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training course made possible by the statewide JobsNOW program. The JobsNOW “12 in 6” initiative provides training that can be completed in six months or less in a dozen high-demand occupations. At VGCC, students can choose from three JobsNOW opportunities, all focusing on jobs in the health care field: CNA, Phlebotomy and Medical Billing & Coding.

The JobsNOW CNA program will begin on Monday, June 7 at the college’s main campus in Vance County and will continue through Sept. 22. Students in the program will receive training in Nurse Aide I, Medication Aide and Geriatric Aide skills, in addition to an Employability Skills course offered by the VGCC Human Resources Development (HRD) department. Classroom and lab training is supplemented by working with real patients in clinical experiences at local nursing homes and hospitals.

Students in the program also have the opportunity to earn their Career Readiness Certification (CRC) by taking the WorkKeys Assessments. Career Readiness Certificates are credentials that can be used as a complement to diplomas, degrees, and resumes, giving job seekers an advantage in the interview process and giving businesses a way to recognize skilled applicants.

Financial assistance is available for qualifying JobsNOW participants.

The JobsNOW initiative is made possible by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds, administered through the North Carolina Community College System and the North Carolina Department of Commerce. VGCC also received a $50,000 Golden LEAF Opportunities for Work (GLOW) grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation to support JobsNOW. The grant helps students in the JobsNOW program defray some of the costs of their tuition, fees, materials, uniforms and needed supplies.
