VGCC Relay for Life Raises $3,700

Vance-Granville Community College held a Mini-Relay For Life event May 2, with near-simultaneous activities at each of the college’s four campuses: the main campus in Vance County (seen above), the South Campus between Butner and Creedmoor, the Franklin County Campus in Louisburg and the Warren County Campus in Warrenton. VGCC students, faculty and staff raised approximately $3,700 to support the fight against cancer through a variety of means, including bake sales and sales of luminaries in memory or in honor of loved ones who have faced cancer. All funds raised are directed to the American Cancer Society. The events included the lighting of luminaries and a celebratory “Survivors’ Walk.” Those in attendance at Main Campus enjoyed food and booths set up by various vendors, in addition to fun activities for the young or young at heart. Musical entertainment for the event on Main Campus was provided first by a trio of students — Jon Epanchin, Chris Oakley and Kevan Julye — and then by Mystic Vibrations, a four-piece rhythm section of musicians specializing in reggae music.
