VGCC programs to have new leaders

Several academic programs at Vance-Granville Community College will be under new leadership when the fall semester begins Aug. 18, but the two new program heads are not new faces on campus.

Spring W. Tucker (pictured above, left) has been named head of the college’s Computer Information Technology , Networking Technology and Information Systems Security programs. A resident of Henderson, Tucker has taught computer/information systems courses at VGCC since 1989. She earned a B. S. degree in Mathematics from Meredith College and a Master’s in Information Systems degree from the University of Phoenix.

Robert C. Hudson (pictured above, right) will become the head of the Electrical/Electronics Technology program, after serving as interim program head for the past year. Hudson, who lives in Halifax, Virginia, has also been the head of VGCC’s Industrial Systems Technology program. He will be integrating some of the training from IST into the Electrical program to give it a solid base in industrial maintenance. Hudson earned an associate in applied science degree at Danville Community College in Virginia before going on to earn a B.S. in Engineering Technology at Virginia Tech.

“Spring and Robert are veteran VGCC instructors, and they will both do an excellent job in guiding their programs into the future,” said Bobby Van Brunt, VGCC’s Dean of Business and Applied Technologies .

The Computer Information Technology curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for employment with organizations that use computers to process, manage, and communicate information.
