VGCC Portrait Painting Class starts Tuesday

Vance-Granville Community College will offer a Portrait Painting class on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., starting Feb. 12 and continuing through April 15. Classes will be held in room 5230 (Building 5) on the college’s main campus in Vance County.

Instructor Leslie Johnson of Oxford said that new students are reluctant to try portrait painting. “But when they work at it and find they can do it, they find it rewarding and don’t want to stop,” she said. Johnson paints portraits professionally and has taught portrait painting at Vance-Granville for more than a decade.

One thing Johnson said she likes about the portrait painting classes is that complete beginners are welcome to participate, and more experienced painters are quick to help the newcomers. Johnson’s goal is for each student to complete at least one oil portrait by the time he or she completes the course.

The cost of the class is $45.
