VGCC Offers Training for New Online Service

Vance-Granville Community College will offer training for students and faculty on how to use the new “ My VGCC ” system.  My VGCC is the result of a partnership with the CampusCruiser service.  CampusCruiser provides an innovative platform for managing, tracking, promoting, and sharing information with easy-to-use online tools such as e-mail, message boards, discussion groups, and publishing features, all in one unified system.

Training will be offered during the first full week of fall classes, on each of VGCC’s four campuses.  First, training will be held at Franklin County Campus on August 21, in room F135, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.  The Main Campus in Vance County will host training on August 22 and 23 in Building 9’s Seminar Room 2, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Training at South Campus will be August 24 in Room 108 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Finally, Warren County Campus will hold the same training on August 25 in Room W431, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Each training session lasts approximately 45 minutes and starts on the hour.  Snacks will be provided.  Students and faculty members may attend the training at any site they choose.

My VGCC will soon be the way that students communicate electronically with their instructors, according to Director of Distance Education Evelyn Harris.  Using My VGCC is mandatory for all curriculum students.  Students not currently enrolled in curriculum courses and all faculty members are welcome to use the system as well.  Harris also said that the system might one day be used by alumni.

“My VGCC is not hard to use, but you need someone to show you the ropes,” she added.

Each student will have his or her own individually customized page in the My VGCC system, which will organize information on classes, clubs and upcoming events.  Students will be able to incorporate their own personal calendar into a calendar that is pre-programmed with various important college events.  Each student and faculty member will be assigned a unique log-in/user name and password to protect his or her account.
