VGCC offers small business seminar on discrimination

The Vance-Granville Community College Small Business Center is scheduled to hold a free seminar, “Workplace Discrimination Checklist for Small Businesses,” on Wednesday, April 11, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Granville County Expo & Convention Center (4185 US Highway 15 South, Oxford).

It is considered essential for every small business owner to be aware of, and to properly address, discrimination in his or her business. In this seminar, participants will learn the business requirements regarding discrimination, related to federal and state laws. They will discuss policy implementation, tips to staying compliant, and how to address “red flags” common to many small businesses.

Leading the seminar will be Harry Ponder of Weaverville, N.C. Ponder is the former director of the Small Business Center at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College and has taught many courses for the VGCC Small Business Center. He will be teaching another free seminar, “Basics of Starting a Home-Based Business,” on April 11 at 1 p.m. at the Granville County Expo & Convention Center.
