VGCC Offers Seminar on Managing Change

Vance-Granville Community College’s Small Business Center will present a free seminar, called “How to Lead & Negotiate Change in the Workplace,” on Monday, Aug. 25 from 9 a.m. until noon in Room 7107 on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County.

Whether you are trying to get an individual to change how he or she performs on the job or your entire organization is trying to adopt a new strategy, resistance to change can cost a business time, energy and money. This seminar will help participants communicate about the importance of change to co-workers, help those who are reluctant to “let go,” and deal with the stress of change.

Mike Collins of Wake Forest, president of The Perfect Workday Company, will lead the three-hour seminar. Collins, who has led numerous well-received seminars at VGCC, has a bachelor’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and a master’s degree from Duke University.

VGCC Small Business Center Director Diane Finch advised that space is limited for this free seminar. To reserve a seat, pre-register by calling the Small Business Center at (252) 492-2061, ext. 3275 or ext. 3240.’,’spacer15241.gif’),(812,’Registration for Fall ends Aug. 14′,’2008-08-13 12:11:32′,’The Fall 2008 semester at Vance-Granville Community College begins Tuesday, Aug. 19, and registration ends on Thursday, Aug. 14. FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE

Frank A. Clark, VGCC Director of Financial Aid , encourages students who need financial assistance to visit his office immediately and complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For faster results, Clark advises students to apply online at: www.fafsa.ed.gov .

Eligible students may receive Pell Grants ranging from $400 to $4,310. Students may also qualify for other college or state funds, including the NC Education Lottery Scholarships, which are need-based grants that can help many students who previously were not eligible for Pell grants. In order for a student to charge tuition, fees, and books to financial aid awards, the application must be processed entirely prior to the registration period. Students should bring a signed copy of their 2007 federal tax return, and/or their parents’ return, when they apply for funding assistance at any of the four campuses.

Students with preschool-age children may receive financial assistance to help pay for child care, and applications for this help are also available at the Financial Aid Office.

For more details regarding financial assistance, visit the Financial Aid Office in Room 8215 on Main Campus or call (252) 738-3280.
