VGCC offers pre-Mother’s Day Personalized Jewelry class

Vance-Granville Community College will offer a two-hour class on two campuses that provides opportunities for crafting unique, personalized gifts, just in time for Mother’s Day.

The “Hand-Stamped Jewelry” class is scheduled for Friday, May 3 from 1 until 3 p.m. on VGCC’s Franklin County Campus near Louisburg, and again on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. until noon on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. Mother’s Day is May 12.

During the class, instructor Alison Beal of Wake Forest will lead participants through the process of creating what are often known as “mother’s birthstone necklaces.” As this is a so-called “make it, take it” class, participants will leave with a completed piece of jewelry as well as skills that they can use later. “We will use a circular charm, which we will personalize with the names of the intended recipient’s children,” Beal explained. “Each letter is stamped by hand with a metal stamp. We will also include Swarovski birthstone crystals and a silver ball chain. In the end, you will have created a priceless piece of jewelry for your mother, your grandmother or even yourself!” Beal suggested that the handmade jewelry could either be a surprise gift itself, or a mother and child (16 years old and older) could take the class together as a pre-Mother’s Day outing.  “Mom will appreciate the time you put into this thoughtful gift,” Beal said. “With some tips on technique and a little practice, anyone can learn to create something special.”

The cost per person, including all materials and fees, is $24.
