VGCC offers PLC course at South Campus

Vance-Granville Community College will offer a course this summer that provides basic instruction in Programmable Logic Controllers. “Introduction to PLC’s” is scheduled to be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m., June 2 through July 31, on VGCC’s South Campus , located between Creedmoor and Butner.

 

A Programmable Logic Controller (example pictured above) is a type of computer used for automation of electromechanical processes, such as directing machinery on a factory assembly line.

 

In this 96-hour course, students will learn about the different series of Programmable Logic Controllers. Training will include programming functions, program preparation, saving programs, loading programs, and hands-on programming. Students will also learn to read ladder logic and how to install and troubleshoot PLCs.

 

Tim Fox is the instructor for this class. He also teaches for VGCC’s Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Technology program.

 

The cost of the course is $185.25 plus the cost of the textbook.

 

Prospective students can now register and pay for this course online ( vgcc.springerstudios.net/oex ). They also have the option to register and pay for classes at Main Campus, Building 7, Room 7120, Tuesday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
