VGCC offers Gourmet Cooking classes through Continuing Education

This summer, the Culinary Arts Department at Vance-Granville Community College will offer gourmet cooking classes with a Culinary Institute of America (CIA) classically trained instructor featuring many of the popular lunch items served at the Vanguard Café. The classes will be offered through the VGCC Continuing Education division and will allow anyone to participate without being enrolled in the college’s Culinary curriculum program .

 

Classes will run for nine weeks, from May 20 through July 19, and will consist of two separate sections. Students may enroll in one or both sections. The section which will meet Monday – Wednesday from 6 until 9 p.m. will consist of savory appetizers, entrees and desserts. The cost is $500.

 

The section which will meet Thursdays and Fridays from 6 until 9 p.m. will include instruction in bread baking, plated desserts, cake baking and decorating. The cost is $300.

 

Students will learn to create unique gourmet dishes featuring beef tenderloin, lamb, salmon, shrimp and chicken. Students will sample their creations.

 

Seating in the classes will be limited to allow specialized one-on-one training with the instructor, Chef John Boretti.

 

Registration will be held May 16 and 17 at the Culinary department, which is located at the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford.  The cost includes all food items, utensils and clothing. Cash or checks will be accepted.
