VGCC offers Glass Dome Jewelry class

Vance-Granville Community College will offer a two-hour class in which participants will learn how to make unique pieces of jewelry. The “Glass Dome Jewelry: Keepsake Pendants” class is scheduled for Saturday, July 27 from 10 a.m. until noon on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County.

During this class, instructor Alison Beal of Wake Forest will help students make one glass dome pendant necklace and one pair of glass dome earrings. If participants want to make the pendant a “keepsake,” they are encouraged to bring to class a photograph of a loved one. The photo should be small enough so that the desired section, such as a face, could be cut to fit inside a circle with a one-inch diameter. The photo will then be inserted within the glass dome. Alternatively, students can fill the jewelry with pieces of decorative paper, which will be provided. As this is a so-called “make it, take it” class, participants will leave with jewelry to keep or to give as gifts, as well as skills that they can use later.

The total cost per person, including all materials and fees, is $25. Registration in advance is required.
