VGCC Offers Employability, Customer Service Skills Classes

Two Pathways to Employment program classes will begin at Vance-Granville Community College on Feb. 25, one to provide employability skills to unemployed and underemployed, and the other to teach effective customer service skills.

The Human Resources Development Employability Skills class will assess participants’ assets and limitations. The class will help students develop a positive self-concept, employability, communication and problem-solving skills, and awareness of information technology in the workplace.

This 84-hour class will meet Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon on the main campus in Vance County. It will end on March 28.

The Customer Service class is an Occupational Extension class that will teach students basic cash handling and cash register skills and how to deal with angry or hostile customers. Job survival skills will also be covered, aimed at helping students become key employees through establishing positive relationships with co-workers and management.

This is a 60-hour class that will meet Monday-Thursday from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., also on the main campus, ending March 20.

Unemployed and underemployed persons may qualify to attend the Employability Skills class at no cost, while the cost of the Customer Service class is $60 plus a $22.20 book fee.

For more information on eligibility and to register for either class, call Dorothy Williams, VGCC director of Human Resources Development, at (252) 492-2061, ext. 3276.
