VGCC Offers Course To Prepare Students For Bioworks Training

The Human Resources Development and Bioworks programs at Vance-Granville Community College are offering a Pre-Biowork course in June at the Franklin County Campus.

This will be an introductory course for persons interested in enrolling in the college’s Bioworks course but who may need preparation in order to increase their likelihood of successfully completing the course. Bioworks trains persons to operate the manufacturing process in biotechnology operations such as chemicals and pharmaceuticals.

The Pre-Biowork course will explore the concepts of biotechnology and bioworks, provide an overview of biowork course units, and strengthen reading, writing, math and science skills. It will also emphasize job-seeking and keeping skills essential to be successful in the biowork job marketplace.

Classes will be held at the Biotechnology Center at the Franklin County Campus on N.C. 56 west of Louisburg on June 9-27, Monday-Friday, from 1 to 5 p.m. There will be no charge for persons qualifying for an HRD fee waiver because of being unemployed, a pending dislocated worker or low income. There will be a $60 registration fee for others. The program will furnish books and supplies.

Persons interested in the biowork preparatory course should contact Dorothy Williams at (252) 738-3276 or Sharon Essix at (919) 496-1567.
