VGCC offers Continuing Education class for Cosmetologists

Vance-Granville Community College is offering a new course this summer for licensed cosmetologists who need to update their skills and maintain their professional credentials.

The one-day course, called “Color Now,” is scheduled to be held at the college’s Main Campus in Vance County on Monday, June 23, from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The same course will also be offered on Monday, July 21, from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the college’s Franklin County Campus , near Louisburg.

Wallace Evans, an instructor for VGCC’s Cosmetology curriculum program , will teach the class at both locations.

A cosmetologist who completes the six-hour course will earn 0.6 Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) toward the renewal of his or her license.

Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to better understand the concepts of the “Color Wheel” for coloring hair and have the knowledge to correct errors made when coloring hair. A “color wheel” is a circle cut into pie shapes to visualize colors that complement each other or counteract each other for correction purposes, and to explain how colors are mixed to create a new color.  The instructor will discuss hair structure, melanin, the level system, “the law of color,” and color correction.

The cost of the course is $74.

Prospective students can now register and pay for this course online ( vgcc.springerstudios.net/oex ).  They also have the option to register and pay for classes at Main Campus in Building 7, Room 7120, Tuesday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
