VGCC Offers Class at South Campus On Buying, Using Digital Cameras

It seems like everyone is using a digital camera these days. If you have one, or are considering getting one, you may be interested in a class being offered by Vance-Granville Community College.

“Digital Camera Know How and Photo Editing” will be taught at VGCC’s South Campus on N.C. 56 between Butner and Creedmoor on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., beginning July 10 and concluding Aug. 14.

Rex Lue of Oxford, who has an extensive background in photography and computers, will teach the course. While teaching computer courses at the Adult Learning Center in Virginia Beach, Va., several years ago, he recognized the growing use of digital cameras and designed the course he will teach at South Campus.

Lue said he will show students what to look for when buying a digital camera. Persons who already have one may bring it to class and work with it. He will instruct on how the digital camera works as opposed to film cameras.

Once photos are taken with a digital camera, users need to know what to do with the pictures. Lue will teach how to save and email photos, how to get pictures out of the camera, and manipulate and edit them, using the Adobe Photo Shop program on the computer. Students will need basic computer knowledge to take advantage of the course.

Lue will also show students how to get prints from their digital cameras, and he will teach how to organize their pictures by creating computer files and folders. He will provide handouts on all functions taught in the class.

Cost of the digital camera class is $55. Persons may register for the class by calling (919) 528-4737 or (252) 738-3417.
