VGCC observes National Campus Safety Awareness Month

All students deserve to live, learn, and work without fear of violence or discrimination. Colleges and universities across the United States, including Vance-Granville Community College, highlight their commitment to creating inclusive and respectful campus communities by recognizing National Campus Safety Awareness Month in September.

“It’s critical that institutions set expectations about what contributes to the positive development of their community and how all individuals play a role in this work,” notes Laura Egan, Director of Training and Technical Assistance for the , a national non-profit that works with college and university communities to create safer campuses. “It’s inspiring to see how students and campus professionals partner in September to design programs and resources that speak to the unique experiences and culture of their own institutions.”

According to VGCC Campus Police Chief Sean Newton, the college has numerous safety resources for students, faculty and staff. Criminal acts, accidents, emergencies, and suspicious persons or items should be reported to VGCC campus police/security as soon as possible. Contact campus police/security officers by either calling (252) 738-3373, visiting the security office located on the first floor of Building 2 on Main Campus, or using any Emergency Red Phone located throughout Main Campus.

If you are a victim of a crime on campus or if there is an emergency on campus, dial 911 first, and then notify campus police/security.
