VGCC Nursing Students make Blankets to help Hospice

Nursing students at Vance-Granville Community College recently undertook a service project to bring smiles to patients in hospice care and children who are grieving the loss of loved ones.

Second-year students in the VGCC Associate Degree Nursing program created a total of 25 colorful fleece blankets, and delivered them, along with cards of encouragement for patients, to Hospice of Wake County. The students began the project in class as part of their instructional unit on End-of-Life care, according to their instructor, Camella Marcom.

Anne Arndt of the Hospice staff wrote a note of thanks to Marcom and the students, saying, “Please extend the appreciation of the staff of Hospice of Wake County and of the children in our Reflections bereavement program for the soft, comforting blankets. For children, such items are valuable.” In addition to Wake County, the Hospice organization serves Franklin, Johnston, Durham, and Harnett counties.
