Mitch Evans was recently named Dean of Vance-Granville Community College’s Warren County Campus . Evans has served in the North Carolina Community College System for 22 years, including almost five years at VGCC. In his new leadership role, Evans (pictured above by the campus sign) is responsible for supervising all operations at the satellite campus in Warrenton, including both the curriculum and continuing education courses offered there.

Evans has deep roots in the community he now serves. He was born and raised in Warren County and today lives in the Littleton area near the Warren-Halifax county line. “My 90-year-old grandmother also lives in the county,” Evans noted. “I used to walk the streets of Warrenton with her when I was a kid. I also have aunts, uncles and cousins in the county, and most were born and raised here. I worked and played in the county most of my life.”

Evans earned an associate degree in Computer Science at Hardbarger Junior College of Business, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology and a Master of Information Systems degree, both from the University of Phoenix. He joined VGCC in 2009 as Director of Infrastructure Services and later became Director of Information Technology. In addition to his technology management roles, he has 13 years of teaching experience and has developed several community college courses. Evans is a graduate of the North Carolina Community College Leadership Program.

“The Warren County Campus can make a difference through partnerships with our community, customers, businesses, and service area,” Evans said. “We want to get the word out in Warren County that this is ‘your college.’ We want everyone to take ownership and be proud of what the college is doing to grow our businesses and our community. I’m proud to be from the area and I’m proud to be a part of growing with everyone.” He cited the vision statement that VGCC adopted in 2013, which specifically highlights the importance of community partnerships, educational excellence, sustainability and economic development.

“I am pleased to welcome Mitch Evans to my team of outstanding Deans,” said Dr. Angela Ballentine, VGCC’s vice president of academic and student affairs. “I believe he will bring value, technology experience, drive and passion to our team. I am looking forward to working with Dean Evans to educate, inspire and support our students.”
