VGCC Mobile app goes live

There is a new way for Vance-Granville Community College students, employees, alumni and community members to stay connected to the college. “VGCC Mobile,” the college’s official app, is now available for free download on both Android devices and Apple products such as the iPhone and iPad.

 

“VGCC Mobile brings the college to your phone in an easy-to-use app,” said Dr. Ken Lewis, VGCC’s vice president of institutional research and technology. “Since more and more of our students use smartphones and tablets, we have developed this app to make information and services more accessible and convenient for them. While it’s primarily focused on students, it can also be useful for anyone who’s interested in VGCC.”

 

Through the app, mobile users can keep up-to-date with VGCC news, event announcements and the college’s social media presence (on Facebook , Twitter and YouTube ). They can access a directory of VGCC faculty and staff and open an interactive map of the locations of the college’s four campuses. Students can also access their online VGCC classes through the Moodle system , although Moodle has limited functionality on mobile devices.

 

Other features of the app include links to library services, current class schedules, and the “ Ask VGCC ” tool, an automated “instant answer” service that seeks to respond to frequently asked questions.

 

“We invite users to try out the app, review it, and provide us feedback, which you can do within the app itself,” Lewis said. “We welcome comments and suggestions as we continuously improve VGCC Mobile.” Lewis applauded the app’s development by VGCC webmaster Jermiel Hargrove, who is also a graduate of the college’s Web Technologies program .
