VGCC implements new computer lab printing policy

Vance-Granville Community College students will see changes in how they print documents in campus computer labs when the new fall semester begins on Aug. 17. In the new pay-to-print system, the college will credit $20 to each student’s account for printing. This $20 quota will be available for an entire academic year, from the Fall 2010 semester through the Summer 2011 semester. Students will now be charged ten cents per printed page (20 cents per double-sided page). When a student chooses to print on campus, he or she will first enter their WebAdvisor log-in and password, and the required amount will be deducted from his or her account.

Students can add money to their initial $20 allotment through a secure web site, vgcc.pcounterwebpay.com .

There, they can also check their account balance at any time. Students can also add money to their account at the business office at any VGCC campus.

At the end of the summer semester, all accounts will be purged, and any unused funds will not be refunded to students.

In cases of printer malfunctions, students will be able to have money credited back to their account by filling out a refund form within 24 hours of the malfunction occurring. Students will need to see a lab instructor, Learning Resources Center (LRC) staff member or Open Lab technician for the refund form.

To reduce unnecessary printing costs, VGCC staff members advise students to e-mail documents and information to themselves or friends, to download information to personal USB drives, and to print only selected pages rather than entire documents.

Students with questions about the new policy should contact their instructors, LRC staff members or Open Lab staff members.
