VGCC Honors Graduates of Phlebotomy program

Vance-Granville Community College recently honored 14 graduates of its Phlebotomy program. The students finished their coursework on April 25 and are now eligible to take the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians national certification exam in May. Each of the new graduates completed their training through VGCC in cooperation with Maria Parham Medical Center. These graduates are looking forward to working in area health care settings, including hospitals, nursing homes and doctor’s offices. The duties of a phlebotomy technician, or phlebotomist, include drawing blood samples for lab testing and providing other services such as drug and alcohol screening. Vance-Granville currently offers both evening and weekend phlebotomy classes.

The graduates from the phlebotomy program included: Jacqueline Harris, Brandan Perkinson, Rakima Pipkin, Niesha Small, Rachael Tharrington, Lasheena Thomas and Jerome Tiangson, all of Henderson; Jason Welt and Nicole Welt, both of Wake Forest; Tametha Pendergrass of Norlina; Margaret Brown of Louisburg; Jeanne Arendall and Keisha Williams, both of Oxford; and Shaundlyn Crudup of Youngsville.
