VGCC Franklin Campus salutes Child Care Center graduates

Two new graduates of the Child Care Center on Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus were honored in a ceremony on Aug. 20 as they prepared to enter kindergarten. The students were Tyler Eaves of Louisburg and Niyana McMillan of Rolesville.

Bobbie Jo May, the Dean of Franklin Campus, welcomed family members to the child day care center’s graduation ceremony. She applauded the staff of the center for emphasizing “community, learning and fun.” May said that the VGCC mission of educating, inspiring and supporting a diverse community of learners to achieve professional and personal success starts at the pre-school level. “I feel that our graduates are well-equipped with a strong foundation for their future educational opportunities,” May said. “Most importantly, these kids have learned to love learning.”

In her remarks, Child Care Center manager Michelle Patterson Jones said to the parents and other relatives in attendance, “Thank you for sharing your children with us and allowing us to promote their development.”

After an invocation by VGCC Early Childhood Education instructor Tina Dekle, Jones and child care center teacher Teresa Gallatin presented the children with diplomas. Jones also handed out unique “personality certificates” to the students. The Creativity Award and the Albert Einstein “certificate of smartness” went to Eaves, while McMillan received the “Friendly Frog” and “Incredible, Interesting Imagination” honors.

Addison Jones of Louisburg, a younger student at the center, served as marshal for the graduation, carrying the American flag as the students processed and recessed.

With the departure of the graduates, spaces for several children are currently available. Parents from among the general public can enroll their children there, as can parents who are VGCC students or employees. For more information, call Michelle Patterson Jones at (919) 496-1567 .
