Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus near Louisburg will offer several classes for the general public to learn new skills for personal or workplace use.

One, the “Beginner’s Guide to Computers & Internet,” is the perfect first class for students who have limited knowledge of computers. Microsoft Windows XP will be used to introduce novice students to the common components and many uses of personal computers through the Windows environment. Classes are scheduled for Tuesdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., July 7 through Aug. 11. The cost of the course is $55 plus an additional $4 for fees.

A night course focuses on learning Microsoft Word and Excel. Students will familiarize themselves with the popular word processing and spreadsheet programs, which were extensively revamped in their most recent versions. Classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 6 until 10 p.m., July 9 through Aug. 13. The cost of the course is $55 plus an additional $4 for fees.

VGCC’s Human Resources Development (HRD) Department will offer a course that helps students prepare for jobs in the biotechnology field. The course, “Pathways to Bio-Work,” will be held on Franklin Campus Monday – Wednesday, July 13 through Aug. 5, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Participants will be better prepared to take VGCC’s “BioWork” Process Technician course, which is also offered at the Franklin County Campus. BioWork is a training course that prepares men and women for employment as process technicians within Bioprocess, Pharmaceutical, or Chemical Manufacturing companies. HRD classes are free for qualified participants, including the unemployed, underemployed and dislocated workers.

VGCC’s Franklin Campus will also host a refresher course for Certified Nursing Assistants whose certifications have lapsed and want to review before re-taking a Nurse Aide Competency Exam. Classes will be offered Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., Aug. 3 through Aug. 13. The cost of the refresher course is $60. Students should pre-register on July 20 at 3 p.m.

Franklin Campus Director Anthony Pope said that time is running short to register for these final courses of the summer semester. For more information and to register, call (919) 496-1567.
