VGCC Electronics Engineering program moves to South Campus

The Vance-Granville Community College Electronics Engineering Technology program has moved to the college’s South Campus , just in time for the fall semester to begin on Aug. 17. The campus is located on N.C. 56 between Creedmoor and Butner.

The program has been based at VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County since it first began in the 1981-82 school year.

In the Electronics Engineering Technology curriculum, students learn to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills to design, build, install, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify developmental and production electronic components, equipment, and systems such as industrial/computer controls, manufacturing systems, communication systems and power electronic systems. The program includes instruction in mathematics, basic electricity, solid-state fundamentals, digital concepts, microprocessors and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Graduates can qualify for positions such as industrial electronics technicians.

Wesley Williams of Oxford, who has headed the EET program for the last five years, will now be the program head for Engineering Technology, overseeing both Electronics Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering Technology . The latter program was already based at South Campus.

Williams is a graduate of Cape Fear Community College, where he earned the Associate in Applied Science degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, as well as certifications in telecommunication and computer upgrade and repair. He went on to double-major in Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

VGCC offers both a two-year degree and a certificate in Electronics Engineering Technology. The certificate is also available as a Career and College Promise (CCP) Pathway for eligible high school students. For more information on the EET program, contact Williams at (252) 738-3541.
