VGCC Class Develops Math Skills for Future in Health Care

Vance-Granville Community College’s Human Resources Development (HRD) Department will offer a class that focuses on basic math skills for individuals interested in pursuing a career in health care. This course is part of Project “Skill-UP,” an initiative funded by a grant from the North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission.

Beginning Nov. 6, the class will be held in Building 7 of the college’s Main Campus from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday. The class will continue through Dec. 14.

HRD classes are designed to help the unemployed and the underemployed with career planning, including job-seeking and job-keeping skills. This course, which will be taught by instructor Jeff Finch, helps students to develop skills that will be useful as they continue training in fields such as nursing and radiography.

HRD classes are free to qualified applicants, including those who are unemployed, but HRD coordinator Kyle Burwell noted that space in the class is limited. Interested persons should contact Joyce Thorpe at (252) 738-3443 to determine if they qualify for free tuition and for more information on this training.
