VGCC Board Holds Meeting at Masonic Home

The Vance-Granville Community College Board of Trustees held its bimonthly meeting on Monday, March 21 at the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford.

Dinner for the meeting was prepared by students in the VGCC Culinary Technology program under the supervision of Chef Ross Ragonese, VGCC Culinary program head, and his fellow instructor, Chef John Boretti. The Granville County Commissioners were the Board’s guests for dinner. The three-course meal included seafood in puff pastry with sherry and cream; veal topped with prosciutto, eggplant and fontina cheese; and crepes with cheesecake filling, topped with a flaming strawberry sauce.

The regular Board meeting was held immediately following dinner. During that meeting, upon recommendation by the Budget Committee, the Board voted to adopt the 2011-2012 County Current and Capital Outlay Budgets as presented, contingent upon approval by appropriate county commissioners in the four-county area. The total requested amounts for each county are: Vance County, $1,338,024; Granville County, $718,624; Warren County, $180,112; and Franklin County, $338,387.

Board Chairman Donald C. Seifert reported that the college’s audit for 2009-2010 was completed by the North Carolina Office of the State Auditor, and the audit disclosed no deficiencies in internal control over financial reporting and had no audit findings.

In other business, the Board approved a recommendation by the Warren County Commissioners to appoint Commissioner Ruby Downey to fill the Warren County Liaison position on the Board.

The next regular meeting of the Board will be held on Monday, May 16 at 7 p.m. in the board room on Main Campus.
