VGCC Awards 337 Scholarships to students

Vance-Granville Community College awarded 337 scholarships to full-time students at a ceremony held Feb. 24 in the college’s Civic Center.

In his welcoming remarks, VGCC President Randy Parker thanked the donors who support the college’s Endowment Fund, many of whom were on hand to present their scholarships in person. “No community college in the state can boast of having more endowed scholarships than Vance-Granville,” the president said. Parker noted that more than 6,000 scholarships had been awarded to VGCC students since 1982.

A record number of scholarships of various levels, including 22 Presidential Scholar Awards, 89 Presidential Merit Awards, 208 Academic Achievement scholarships and 18 annual (non-endowed) scholarships were awarded at the ceremony, representing approximately $213,000.

Scholarships have been established by individuals, industries, businesses, civic groups, churches and the college’s faculty and staff to assist deserving VGCC students in their academic endeavors.
