Two Artists Represent VGCC in State Display

The 13th annual North Carolina Community Colleges Art Exhibition is officially open for public viewing in Raleigh, and it includes works by two students of Vance-Granville Community College personal enrichment art and quilting classes. “Red Hat Quilt” (pictured above, left) by Loree Nelson of Creedmoor and “Seascape I” (pictured above, right), a watercolor painting by Jean C. Quick of Oxford, are VGCC’s entries among the many pieces of art on display, which include paintings, sculpture, photography, ceramics, drawings, mixed media, stained glass, needlework, basket and double-weave cotton textiles.

Each of the state’s 58 community colleges was invited to submit two pieces of artwork to be displayed in the Caswell Building, headquarters for the N.C. Community College System Office. “The annual art exhibit is a wonderful way for us to showcase the creative talent of our students, faculty and staff throughout the state,” said N.C. Community College System President, Dr. Scott Ralls. “North Carolina’s creative economy plays a large role in our state’s future prosperity and our colleges and students are vital players.”

The System Office partnered with the Visual Art Exchange, the oldest private non-profit visual arts organization in Raleigh, to install the artwork and jury entries. Art is exhibited on five floors of the Caswell Building, located at 200 W. Jones Street, in downtown Raleigh. The public is invited to schedule a tour by calling (919) 807-7100. Tours will be available only by appointment during regular office hours, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except for State Holidays. The exhibit will run through December. Visit the System Office web site for more information.
