Taylor Presents Gifts to VGCC Endowment Fund

Above: Julia Ann Taylor of Oxford presents checks on October 5 to Vance-Granville Community College President Randy Parker (center) and VGCC Endowment Fund specialist Kay Currin (right) to establish a new Presidential Merit Award scholarship and to enhance the Joseph and Carrie P. Hamme scholarship to the Presidential Merit Award level. Both gifts memorialize relatives of Taylor who were also Granville County residents. The new scholarship is named in memory of Taylor’s aunt, Grace Hamme Jester, who worked for many years as an administrative assistant for the city of Miami. Taylor recalled Jester as “an artist, a cat lover, and someone who thought it was important to help people get an education. I wanted to keep her memory alive.” Jester passed away in October 2005.

The original Joseph and Carrie P. Hamme scholarship was established in 1986 in memory of the Hammes by their descendants, including Taylor. (VGCC Photo)
