Summer VGCC computer classes teach skills for work and personal life

School can be “in” this summer for students interested in honing computer skills through several evening courses offered by the Computer Center at Vance-Granville Community College, starting soon on the college’s main campus in Vance County.

A course on QuickBooks, the powerful accounting system for small businesses, will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., May 18 through July 6. Students will learn the types of information that businesses need to track and how to enter and track that information in QuickBooks. In addition, students will learn to invoice customers, record payments for customers, pay bills to outside vendors, manage inventory and analyze financial data. The registration fee for this course is $65, with other college fees totaling $6.

Digital Photography & Photo Editing” is scheduled for Monday evenings from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., May 23 through July 25. Students will learn the basics of operating digital cameras. Then, they will learn how to manipulate and edit the digital photographs they have taken, using the Adobe Photoshop Elements software program. The registration fee for this course is $65, with other college fees totaling $6.

Finally, VGCC will again offer a class that teaches students about Computer-aided Drafting (CAD) with the AutoCAD LT software. This course will be held on Tuesday nights, May 24 through Sept. 6, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. AutoCAD is used in a variety of professions such as engineering, architecture, manufacturing and even landscaping and interior design. Students need a good working knowledge of computers in order to take the AutoCAD class, but they do not need drafting experience. The registration fee for this course is $120, with other college fees totaling $6.

For one course per semester, registration fees are waived for N.C. resident seniors, ages 65 and above. For more information on costs and to register for any of these computer courses, call (252) 738-3417.
