Stay Online employees complete Six Sigma training at VGCC

Vance-Granville Community College recently recognized four employees of Stay Online, a Creedmoor-based manufacturer, for completing the Six Sigma Green Belt Training and Certification program.

VGCC Director of Customized Training Sara Lloyd presented certificates to Howard Schero of Raleigh, a web development content manager for the company; Alicia Cannady of Youngsville, an international order fulfillment manager; John-Morgan Barnhart of Raleigh, a product engineering intern; and Marek Odolinski of Durham, a systems administrator. The four are the first Stay Online employees to complete this level of training.

Six Sigma is a set of techniques and tools that has been used for three decades by various industries to promote quality and process improvement. VGCC offers a 64-hour Six Sigma Green Belt program, as well as a 16-hour Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt course, to local industries through the North Carolina Customized Training Program. VGCC offers other quality training courses to local employers such as ISO Quality Management and Lean Manufacturing.

Stay Online believes strongly in such workforce training programs, according to Bob Shaw, quality manager for the company. “Training pays huge dividends,” said Shaw. “We feel this supports the growth of the company and our employees. People have been promoted after taking other courses through Vance-Granville.” He expressed pride in the four new “Green Belts,” saying that they would use what they have learned throughout their careers.

Founded in 1987, Stay Online manufactures and distributes power connectivity products, including power cords and adapters. The company has been based in Creedmoor for over four years, and in its current 150,000-square-foot facility since 2014. Stay Online also has a location in Prague, Czech Republic.

VGCC partners with new, expanding, and existing businesses to provide education, training and support services tailored to meet the needs of the industry and its employees. Employers seeking information on VGCC programs should call Sara Lloyd at (252) 738-3433.
