South Campus To Celebrate Earth Day on April 23

Vance-Granville Community College’s South Campus has scheduled an Earth Day festival for Monday, April 23, to educate the college and community about conservation and the natural world in a fun, informative setting.

The public is invited to attend the celebration from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Weather permitting, activities will be outside in front of the campus at 1547 South Campus Drive, which is located on N.C. 56 between Creedmoor and Butner.

Special guests will include Greenology Products, scientist Dr. Matt Meiners from EpiCypher, Dalton Mill Nursery, the Tar River Land Conservancy, the North Carolina Forest Service, Granville County Recycling Coordinator Teresa Baker, the Creedmoor Farmers Market, the Granville County Sheriff’s Department (collecting old medications), the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ N.C. Bioenergy Research Initiative, the Granville County Beekeepers Association, Granville Gardeners, Granville County Soil & Water Conservation, Granville Greenways, the Hazen and Sawyer engineering firm focusing on water quality, a U.S. Marine Corps Recruiter and Granville Health System, among others.

Food vendors will include VGCC Culinary Arts, Jay Boy’s Hot Dogs and Owl House Café.

Activities will include a Trash/Recycling Fashion Show, corn hole and horseshoes. Meanwhile, as part of a contest, students in several South Campus classes will create posters depicting environmental concerns related to Earth Day, South Campus students will be repotting plants, and the VGCC Mechatronics program will have a robotics display.
