Roxanne Jackson Named 2002 Teacher Of The Year

Vance-Granville’s Professional Advisory Committee has chosen Roxanne D. Jackson as the college’s Excellence in Teaching Award nominee for 2002.

Jackson teaches Business Administration and Accounting at the Franklin County Campus. She will be considered with nominees from the other 58 community colleges in the state for the N.C. Community College System/R.J. Reynolds Excellence in Teaching Award.

Also nominated for the 2002 honor were Tim Robinson, Criminal Justice; Crystal Brantley, English; Beth Phillips, Nursing; and Ella Ruth Duncan, GED. Randy Owen, PAC chairman, said all the nominations were outstanding, and the committee did not have an easy time selecting a winner.

Jackson, who lives in Franklinton, has been at VGCC four years, after teaching at Louisburg College and employment in the marketing field. A Pennsylvania native and former community college student, she holds a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Missouri at St. Louis.

Among the many letters of support for Jackson’s nomination from students, faculty and supervisors was one from Bobbie Jo May, Franklin Campus coordinator, who said, in part: “Roxanne came to Vance-Granville Community College … prepared to make a difference. She entered the classroom with excitement and a commitment to help her students to succeed. She makes herself available to them at their convenience, not hers.”

Our congratulations to Roxanne Jackson and best wishes for success in the state competition.
