Redesigned VGCC.edu launches March 27

The newly redesigned Vance-Granville Community College website ( vgcc.springerstudios.net ) is scheduled to go live on March 27. While much of the content will be familiar to users, the look and feel of the site has been overhauled and upgraded.

Of particular note, the new version of the site employs responsive web design (RWD). “Having a responsive design means that the site is intended to display correctly on practically any device, from the largest desktop monitor screen to the smallest mobile phone,” said Jermiel Hargrove, VGCC’s digital media specialist, who has overseen the implementation of the new site. “This will provide easier access to information and provide a better experience for visitors to our site.”

The college previously maintained a separate mobile version of the website, which will no longer be necessary.

In addition, the new site uses the latest techniques and standards for accessibility in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

There is also a new Announcements section on the home page that includes an “alert” function that will highlight critical information when needed.

VGCC’s Facebook and Twitter feeds will also be available as tabs on the home page without having to leave the site.

Because of changes to the website’s infrastructure, many URLs (web addresses) from the current site will no longer work. Previously bookmarked URLs may take the user to an error page.

“The new VGCC.edu represents a step forward for our college and puts us ahead of the curve, with a World Wide Web presence that is attractive, technically sophisticated and mobile-friendly,” Dr. Ken Lewis, VGCC’s vice president of institutional research and technology, said. “As always, our goal is to connect current and future students, employees and the general public with the information they need about our programs and services. We appreciate our community’s patience and apologize in advance for any inconvenience or technical difficulties associated with the update.”

Moodle , the management system for VGCC’s online, hybrid and web-enhanced courses, is unaffected by the changes.
