PSNC Energy presents contributions to VGCC

PSNC Energy recently renewed its commitment to supporting Vance-Granville Community College students by increasing the size of its scholarship endowment.

Julie Roper of Raleigh, external relations manager for PSNC Energy, visited the college’s main campus to present the company’s newest contributions. PSNC Energy, formerly Public Service Company of North Carolina, has been supporting the VGCC Endowment Fund since 1997. The PSNC Energy Academic Achievement Scholarship is presented to a VGCC student each year.

“We are pleased to continue our tradition of partnering with Vance-Granville Community College,” Roper said. “Our company is committed to making a difference in the lives of the customers we serve. Supporting our outstanding community college system not only helps students in our communities, but also helps develop the workforce needed to sustain a healthy economy.”

Headquartered in Gastonia, N.C., PSNC Energy operates in the north-central, Piedmont and western areas of North Carolina in a service area covering 12,000 square miles. The utility is franchised to serve a 28-county service area, including three of the four counties served by VGCC. A subsidiary of SCANA Corporation, PSNC Energy distributes natural gas to approximately 520,000 customers in 96 cities and communities.

“Students of today and tomorrow will benefit from PSNC Energy’s generosity in building upon their long history of partnering with our Endowment Fund,” said Dr. Stelfanie Williams, president of VGCC. “Such support from our community helps our students achieve professional and personal success, while also helping Vance-Granville lead the economic development of our region.”

Through the Endowment Fund , VGCC has awarded more than 8,000 scholarships to students since 1982. For more information about the Endowment Fund, call (252) 738-3409.
