Patricia Graham Selected As Staff Award Winner

Patricia P. “Pat” Graham, who has been at Vance-Granville Community College since its beginning, has been named the Staff Award winner for 2002.

Her nomination will go to the N.C. Community College System for consideration for the State Staff Award with winners from other schools in the system.

The Professional Advisory Committee selected Graham from among four nominees. Also considered were Marsha Nelson, dean of Curriculum; Cecelia Wheeler, South Campus coordinator; and Geraldine Cash, South Campus receptionist/secretary.

Pat Graham was hired as secretary to the first president of Vance County Technical Institute soon after the school was established in 1969. She has served with each succeeding president, and a member of the Board of Trustees has referred to her as the “other president” of VGCC.

Actively involved in almost every innovation at VGCC over the years, Pat Graham is noted for her close association with the Endowment Fund, which has grown to almost $5 million, and to the Endowment Fund Golf Tournament, with which she is involved in almost every detail.

President Robert A. Miller said of the nominee: “Pat is a dedicated professional who is at the top of her profession. She is able to take care of the day-to-day office business and handle the unexpected when it occurs. She interacts well with the public and all members of the college staff and maintains her composure no matter how difficult or challenging the task.”

Congratulations, Pat, on well-deserved recognition.
