Nurse Aide training courses scheduled at VGCC Main Campus

Vance-Granville Community College has scheduled several occupational healthcare courses to start in September at the college’s Main Campus in Vance County.

The Nurse Aide Level I course will be offered on two different schedules. The first class, with instructor Evelyn Reeves, will meet Tuesday-Thursday, Sept. 9 through Jan. 21, from 1 until 5 p.m. (12:30-4:30 p.m. for clinical sites). Emily Hamilton and Linda Hahnel will teach the second class, scheduled to meet Monday-Thursday, Sept. 15 through Nov. 13, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. (7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. for clinical sites). This 210-hour program prepares students for employment in a variety of health care settings, including nursing homes, assisted living homes, home care, hospitals and doctor’s offices. Nursing assistants provide basic patient care and assist the nursing staff with routine daily tasks. Classroom, laboratory and clinical learning experiences are included. For either class, the cost is $205 plus applicable fees.

In addition, the Nurse Aide Level 2 program is scheduled to be held on Main Campus, Monday-Thursday, Sept. 15 through Dec. 3, from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. Ann Start will serve as the instructor. To register for this 181-hour course, a student must be currently listed on the N.C. Nurse Aide Registry (Level I). This advanced-level course, which is not offered at all North Carolina community colleges, is designed to further develop the skills of the CNA I. Duties of the Nurse Aide II may include glucose monitoring, sterile procedures, IV monitoring, catheter insertion, and wound care. The cost of this course is $205 plus applicable fees.

VGCC’s other Occupational Healthcare Programs include Nurse Aide Refresher courses, as well as Geriatric Aide, Medication Aide and Phlebotomy.

Prospective students can now register for these courses online ( vgcc.springerstudios.net/ohp ). They may also register in person at any VGCC campus, Tuesday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
