Next Basic Law Enforcement Class At VGCC Scheduled For Aug. 19

Aug. 19 may seem quite a ways away, but it’s not too early to begin planning if you would like to enter the next Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) class at Vance-Granville Community College.

Classes in the 15-week daytime program will be held from 8 a.m. to about 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, beginning Aug. 19, on VGCC’s main campus in Vance County. Some weekends are also necessary to complete the 608 hours mandated by the state for the training.

Students who complete the VGCC BLET training take the North Carolina certification exam for law enforcement officers. The curriculum of the VGCC course was recently updated to meet current state regulations, and VGCC graduates have a high passing rate on the state exam.

Applicants for the BLET training must be 20 years or older, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be sponsored by a law enforcement agency. The cost of the course averages $650, which includes books, uniforms and equipment.

Questions on the BLET program and requests for an application should be directed to Tony Pendergrass, VGCC law enforcement training director, at (252) 738-3263.
