New VGCC Course helps Students turn Photos into Home Movies

A new course being offered at Vance-Granville Community College starting Feb. 11 will give area residents the ability to create their own movies for friends and family using their digital photos. Students will create digital movies with Movie Maker, a built-in Windows computer program designed to handle music and video collections.

The course is scheduled to be held on Monday nights from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. in Building 7 on the college’s main campus in Vance County. Classes will conclude March 17.

“Bring your digital photos to class and see how easy it can be to create, edit, and add special effects to your movies,” said VGCC Computer Center coordinator Laura Peace. Instructor Patrick Newcomb will teach students how to add text and titles to their photos, create special effects and professional-looking transitions between scenes, and use songs or background music to set the mood. Additionally, students will learn how to share their movies with friends and family through email, CDs, or DVDs. Students taking this class should have good basic computer skills.

The cost to register for the course is $55, plus a $3 technology fee.
