Job Training available at VGCC South Campus

Three Vance-Granville Community College classes scheduled to begin in September at the college’s South Campus, located on N.C. 56 between Creedmoor and Butner, offer area residents the chance to learn new occupational skills.

A ten-week Commercial Cleaning course will be offered on South Campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. until noon, Sept. 9 through Nov. 13. Germaine Harrison will teach students proper procedures for taking care of a building, including custodial skills, stripping, waxing and floor maintenance. Topics will include tools, safety, techniques, and cleaning agents. The cost of the course is $60.

An Administrative Assistant Training course will allow area residents to sharpen their skills in accounting, payroll records, inventory systems, telephone skills/professionalism, time management, business communication and problem solving. Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 6 until 9 p.m., Sept. 16 through Dec. 9. Instructor Kathy Strickland will use classroom projects and hands-on activities.The cost of the course is $60.

In addition, a 12-week course on the basics of plumbing, entitled “Assistant Plumber Training,” is scheduled, with exact start and end dates to be announced based on demand. Instructor James Rogers will teach students about general tools, fittings, procedures and materials used in the plumbing trade. Classes will be held from 6 until 9 p.m. on South Campus. The cost of the course is $60.
