Interest, Diligence Help Win Honors For VGCC Electrical Tech. Student

Gerald Mullins is like many students in vocational programs at Vance-Granville Community College. He works full-time during the day and attends school evenings.

In addition, Mullins drives all the way from Littleton to the VGCC main campus in western Vance County for classes.

It was dedication like that, plus an “A” average that earned Mullins Vocational Student of the Semester honors for spring semester at the college.

Mullins, 33, lives in the northeastern edge of Warren County and works in his father’s business, MSAT Electronics in Littleton. Gerald’s primary responsibility is installing satellite systems his father sells.

Mullins earned an Associate in Science from Halifax Community College in 1992 and is currently seeking a diploma in Electrical/Electronics Technology at VGCC. “I’m still exploring my future,” he said, “but I want to learn all I can about electrical systems and wiring so I can pass the state AC wiring exam and be licensed to do high voltage cabling.”

Frank Johnson, one of the evening program electrical instructors at VGCC, said, “Gerald Mullins is always in class, he shows a lot of interest and asks questions when he isn’t quite clear; he always wants to make sure he has it right.”
