Henderson Kiwanis Club endows VGCC Scholarship in memory of club member

The Kiwanis Club of Henderson recently made a donation to the Vance-Granville Community College Endowment Fund that will create an Academic Achievement scholarship named in memory of Robert J. Turner. Turner was a longtime member of the club, a former club president and Kiwanian of the Year who passed away last year. A World War II veteran, pilot and crop duster, Turner was described as a true gentleman with an adventurous spirit who was “an inspiration to us all” by Donald C. Seifert, Sr. of Henderson, a Kiwanis Club member and chairman of the VGCC Board of Trustees. The new scholarship will be awarded later this year to a VGCC student. The club previously endowed the Robert B. Harrison/Henderson Kiwanis Club scholarship, which was also named in memory of a former club member.

The Kiwanis Club of Henderson is part of Kiwanis International, a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, “one community and one child at a time.” The Kiwanis Club of Henderson performs many community service projects in Henderson to help serve children.
