Health-care Job Training available at VGCC South Campus

Vance-Granville Community College will offer several courses this summer that train area residents for careers in health-care at the college’s South Campus, located between Creedmoor and Butner.

A Medication Aide training course will be offered twice at the campus, both on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The first course schedule runs from May 17 through May 24 and the second from June 14 through June 21. Sherie Kemp-Bruce is the instructor.

To register for the course, a student must have a high school diploma or GED and must be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry as a CNA I in good standing. Students who successfully complete the course will be able to take a state exam and qualify to be listed on the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry. Medication Aides pass medications in settings such as home-health agencies and skilled nursing facilities under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The cost of the course is $65.

The campus will also host a Basic Medical Office Administration course on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 until 9 p.m., June 1 through July 22. The course is provided by VGCC’s Human Resources Development department and is free to qualified applicants, including those who are unemployed.

A Nurse Aide Refresher course will be taught by Sherie Kemp-Bruce at South Campus on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., June 2 through June 9. This course is for Certified Nursing Assistants whose certifications have expired or who want to review before taking or re-taking a Nurse Aide Competency Exam. The cost of the course is $65.
